Trip to Arbuckle Mts

For Labor Day weekend, Michael and I decided to go for a little staycation in the Arbuckle Mountains, about an hour south of Oklahoma City. After checking in to our bed & breakfast, we went for a little hike in Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

Here is a photo of Rock Creek:

The terrain was certainly “prairie,” with some prickly pear cacti…

…and thistles (I told Michael that I believe these are what Winnie the Pooh’s friend Eeyore eats)…

…and more prairie flowers….

…and the closest thing Oklahoma has to mountains (notice all the cacti!)….

…tons of giant hawks!

Aren’t these thistles lovely? We thought they were such a vivid color of purple that they almost looked spray painted.

Hiking through a very green forest.

Almost looks like an enchanted forest.

The next day, after our delicious breakfast, we went over to Turner Falls, the largest waterfall in Oklahoma. We viewed it from the top of the hill/mountain. To the right, was this castle. We are not sure of the story behind its existence.
