All the way back in January, Erika and I went whale watching off a charter from a port down in Naha, Okinawa. As you can see, the whales were pretty hesitant to come too far out of the water, and given their enormous lung capacity, once they dove it was quite a while before they surfaced again. I did manage to get a few good shots of their fins as they dove, however.
Here you can see our boat. It wasn’t too large but had a big deck – perfect for observing!
It was quite windy on that water.
This shot and the following five are various stages of whales doing whale things. I’m not a zoologist so I don’t have much further to comment.
